Areas of Practice
Autism Spectrum
The unspoken rules of social interaction make up a large portion of human communication; difficulties understanding these rules can impact all aspects of life. Assessment and treatment for social communication disorders can help by providing a profile of strengths and weaknesses to aid in improved academic, occupational, and social functioning.
Epilepsy
Individuals with epilepsy (seizure disorders) often experience cognitive changes as a result of their seizures and/or the antiepileptic medications they need to take. Neuropsychological testing can determine the nature and extent of their cognitive difficulties, which can then help to guide intervention and treatment of their epilepsy and other common co-occurring conditions, such as ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
ADHD
ADHD can cause pervasive difficulties for children and adults in academic and occupational functioning, as well as in social relationships. While ADHD cannot be “cured” through the process of evaluation, intervention, and support, quality of life can be greatly improved. Evaluation can play an important role in making decisions about treatment and accommodation options.
learning Disability
Unidentified learning disabilities can lead to school disengagement, low achievement, and frustration about unfulfilled potential. Specific learning disabilities do not reflect low intelligence, but rather are neurodevelopmental disorders which can be remediated or accommodated in order to improve academic performance and confidence. Through the process of neuropsychological evaluation, you can better understand current strengths and weaknesses, as well as determine what types of intervention will be effective.
Dementia & Memory Concerns
Cognitive changes are a normal part of the aging process, however determining what’s “normal” can be difficult. Neuropsychological testing can determine if there are memory or other cognitive problems which deviate from normal and can provide a baseline to track possible decline over time.
Other Cognitive or Developmental Concerns
A variety of medical and developmental conditions are accompanied by cognitive difficulties. Comprehensive assessment can provide a framework for intervention and tracking growth or decline over time.
